PERISCOPEIT.CO.UK SUCKS (a free service OK but "click to start your free trial" + no answer from my comment hmmmm....)
Quick test is done (during about 3 hours) by:
- destroying an hidden test webpage to create a 404 error,
- creating a virtual network error by changing IP and TTL of an usued "www." URL for monitoring services which only test main sites
Next step to this document is to describe how monitor service considers remote server as down (a 404 error is sufficent ? any HTTP code ? only a ping ?...)
(*) Number of tested servers used to avoid false-positive mesures / missing values will be added later
(**) If only a number is present, it is the maximum number of messages you can receive for a same outage
(***) Displayed in the format "Commercial_value (Real_value_observed_in_my_logs)" ;)
(****) Some services can refuse redirected URL(s) to avoid mispelling(s) / Will be tested later
(a) In fact, service test remote URL every 15 minutes from 2 locations but waits 2 simultaneous errors from these 2 locations to alert user by mail so the email alert is sent between 15 and 30 minutes after first detection.
